THE IMPORTANCE OF CHILDREN'S DAY
The celebration of Children's Day is an occasion full of joy, laughter and affection, this special day is commemorated on the last Saturday of April, to honor the youngest members of society and recognize their importance in building the future.
In 1999 Colombia celebrated Children's Day for the first time, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UN). The celebration was a tribute to the country's children, recognizing their fundamental rights in order to make children visible at a national level.
This celebration is carried out with special events in schools, parks and communities where recreational and educational activities are organized for children, inviting Colombians to promote their rights and especially the right to play, which is essential to promote their integral development.
This day is not only a date for fun and entertainment, but also to highlight the role of early childhood in society and the opportunity to reflect on the importance of protecting and promoting the rights of children in Colombia and the world.
Unicef emphasized that children should have the right to grow and develop in good health, so access to food, housing, recreation and medical services should be guaranteed in the first instance. Likewise, children should be guaranteed special treatment and care if they have any physical or mental condition that prevents them from accessing regular education.
For this reason this celebration is a reminder for all children to grow up in a safe, loving and warm environment, where they can develop their potential and achieve their dreams.
And today, 24 years later, the invitation is to continue accompanying families and children through play, because it is a meaningful way to honor and recognize them in the national territory.
